Indonesia U-23 meets Vietnam again in ASEAN Cup final after two years

Erick Thohir, PSSI Chairman, welcomes the rematch between Indonesia U-23 and Vietnam in the ASEAN Cup U-23 2025 final.

The Young Garuda secured their final ticket after defeating Thailand through a penalty shootout 7-6 — the match ended 1-1 after extra time at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium.

This meeting becomes a repeat of the final from two years ago — when Vietnam lifted the trophy in Rayong, Thailand, also through penalties.

“I still clearly remember our team’s disappointment when we lost in the 2023 final,” stated Erick Thohir who witnessed firsthand the defeat of the team then coached by Shin Tae-yong.
