Indonesia Suffers Heavy Defeat Against Japan in World Cup Qualifiers

The Indonesia national team endured a crushing 0-6 defeat to Japan in their final Group C match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifiers third round, held at Panasonic Stadium Suita, Osaka.

The hosts dominated from start to finish, with Daichi Kamada scoring a brace. Additional goals came from Takefusa Kubo, Ryoya Morishita, Shuto Machino, and Mao Hosoya, completing a commanding display by Hajime Moriyasu’s side.

Japan controls possession and attack

Japan showcased their superiority with 71% possession, while Indonesia managed only 29%. The Samurai Blue recorded 21 shots11 on target, while Indonesia failed to attempt a single shot throughout the match.

“This match shows the level we must strive to reach,” said an official from the Indonesian camp after the defeat.

Indonesia still advances to fourth round

Despite the lopsided scoreline, Indonesia’s place in the fourth round remains secure. The Garuda squad will await the draw for the next phase, continuing their 2026 World Cup journey.
