Indonesia sends many unseeded players to Japan Open 2025

According to BWF information, Indonesia’s squad at Japan Open 2025 — a tournament with total prize money of $950,000 — relies more heavily on unseeded players than seeded status holders.

A significant change occurs in men’s doubles — Fajar Alfian will make his debut with Muhammad Shohibul Fikri after splitting from Muhammad Rian Ardianto. This new partnership faces an immediate challenge against fellow countrymen Sabar Karyaman Gutama/Moh Reza Pahlevi Isfahani.

In other events, Indonesia has only two seeded representatives — Jonatan Christie as fourth seed in men’s singles and Gregoria Mariska Tunjung as eighth seed in women’s singles. For Gregoria, this tournament marks her comeback after a few weeks of absence due to illness.
