Following a string of unconvincing performances from Persebaya Surabaya’s Ernando Ari, the Indonesian national team is evaluating new options for the goalkeeper position. The coaching staff, led by goalkeeper coach Sjoerd Woudenberg, has turned their attention overseas.

Woudenberg has personally observed Cyrus Margono — a 23-year-old goalkeeper of Indonesian descent currently playing for KF Dukagjini in the Kosovo League. Despite being born in the United States and acquiring Indonesian citizenship a year ago, Margono has yet to receive a national team call-up.

With Patrick Kluivert recently appointed as head coach, the opportunity is now open for new talents to break into the squad. Margono has made 10 appearances this season in Kosovo — a league currently ranked 37th in UEFA’s coefficient ranking — and is considered a promising prospect for the national team moving forward.
