Sumardji Confident Indonesia Can Qualify Directly for WC 2026

Referring to the meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, PSSI representative Sumardji expressed a positive response to the 2026 Asian World Cup Qualifiers Fourth Round draw, which placed Indonesia in a group with Saudi Arabia and Iraq.

The Garuda squad is determined to win every match — a goal believed to be enough to secure direct qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup without needing to go through the fifth round.

“Yes, the draw has taken place and we now know that we’ll face Saudi Arabia and Iraq,” said Sumardji.

“From now on, what we need to prepare is to fight whoever the opponent is, because we must qualify — no need for a fifth round.”
