Ilia Topuria Set to End Makhachev’s UFC Lightweight Reign

Ilia Topuria is preparing to end the UFC lightweight era that has been dominated over the past four years by Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira, according to MMAfighting.

The Georgian-Spanish fighter will get his chance to claim the vacant lightweight title when he faces Charles Oliveira at UFC 317 next month.

“Once I have that belt, Makhachev can get in line — it’s going to be a long fight that grabs everyone’s attention,” said Topuria.

This statement comes after Islam Makhachev vacated the lightweight title to move up to the welterweight division. Still undefeated, Topuria shows high confidence in beating Oliveira in the upcoming title fight this June.
