Hyak Motorsports parts ways with spotter Tab Boyd after Mexico controversy

According to SiriusXM NASCAR, Hyak Motorsports has terminated its cooperation with spotter Tab Boyd — who previously worked with Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and the No. 47 Chevrolet. Clayton Hughes will take his position in the spotter tower for the Pocono race.

This decision comes after Boyd made controversial social media posts about his experience in Mexico during NASCAR’s first race outside the United States since 1958. In his now-deleted posts, Boyd harshly criticized the conditions around the hotel and local security.

Boyd — who previously worked with Hendrick Motorsports and achieved the 2023 Daytona 500 victory with Stenhouse — remains listed as spotter for Ryan Ellis in NASCAR Xfinity Series and Luke Baldwin in NASCAR Truck Series.

A similar controversy involved Carson Hocevar from Spire Motorsports who was fined $50,000 for inappropriate comments about Mexico during a Twitch livestream — the funds will be donated to various Mexican charities.
