Hendrick Motorsports receives heavy penalties after technical violation at Pocono

NASCAR discovered technical violations on the No. 17 Chevrolet of Hendrick Motorsports after the Xfinity series race at Pocono — the team was found to have illegally modified the frame rail conical receivers components.

As a consequence, the team received an L1 penalty including 40 owner points reduction, 10 playoff points deduction, and a $40,000 fine. Crew chief Adam Wall has also been suspended for the next three races.

The part-time No. 17 car has participated in 10 races this season with various drivers including Chase Elliott, Kyle Larson, William Byron, Alex Bowman, and Corey Day. The team has secured two victories — at Bristol with Larson and Charlotte with Byron.

Inspections were also conducted on Cup Series cars No. 9 (Chase Elliott) and No. 20 (Christopher Bell), as well as the Xfinity No. 16 of Christian Eckes — all were found compliant with regulations. Hendrick Motorsports has decided not to appeal the penalties.
