Hamilton Explains Controversial Radio Comments at Miami GP

Hamilton Requests Position Switch with Leclerc

Lewis Hamilton has explained his controversial team radio comments made during the Miami Grand Prix. The Mercedes driver requested a position change with Charles Leclerc after feeling held up behind the Ferrari driver while on medium tires.

Hamilton’s Frustration on Track

Hamilton admitted he believed he could have caught Andrea Kimi Antonelli if the team had acted more quickly in switching positions. Despite the frustration, he clarified that his comments were not aimed at Leclerc but were more about his frustration with the slow decision-making process.

“I generally enjoyed the race. While we’re not as quick as we want to be, I feel like I had a better weekend in general,” Hamilton said after the race.

Meeting with Team Boss

After the race, Hamilton had a meeting with Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff to discuss the incident.

“Fred came to my room. I just put my hand on his shoulder and said don’t be so sensitive. Some of my comments were sarcastic — we’re under huge pressure in the cars,” Hamilton explained.

Clarifying His Comments

The British driver emphasized that his main issue was with the slow decision-making process, not with Leclerc or the Ferrari team. Hamilton made it clear that his frustration stemmed from the lack of timely communication and actions.
