Gyökeres Reveals Why Ruben Amorim’s Style Suits Him

Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres has revealed that Ruben Amorim’s style of play perfectly suits his characteristics — a factor that has reportedly made Arsenal list him as a top transfer target this summer.

“The style of play we adopted under his leadership suited me very well,” Gyökeres told France Football.

The Swedish forward had a remarkable run, becoming the Primeira Liga top scorer for two consecutive seasons — netting 29 goals in his first season and 39 goals in the second.

“We won two league titles in a row for the first time in 71 years. It’s an incredible achievement, and of course, Ruben Amorim played a huge role in that. I’m very grateful to him,” Gyökeres added.

Ruben Amorim’s sudden move to Manchester United last November — while Sporting CP were leading the league and still in the Champions League — came as a shock to Gyökeres, though he said he understood the decision.
