Guardiola worried FIFA Club World Cup could negatively impact Man City

Pep Guardiola has expressed concerns about the FIFA Club World Cup’s impact on Manchester City. Ahead of the match against Al Hilal in Orlando, the Spanish coach highlighted the challenges facing his team.

The Champions League winners have been in the United States for over two weeks — with potential for an extended stay if they reach the New York final. This packed schedule could affect team performance when the new season begins mid-August.

“Maybe in November, December or January it will be a disaster, we are exhausted and the World Cup has destroyed us. I don’t know, but it’s the first time in our lives that this has happened,” said Guardiola.

Responding to Jurgen Klopp’s criticism calling it a “pointless competition”, Guardiola acknowledged understanding his rival’s perspective. However, he also took a dig at other clubs missing out on participation.

“Many teams complain about these competitions because they are not here. If they were, they might love being here with their media and supporters, plus the income they could generate,” added the City coach.
