Guardiola opens door for Jack Grealish’s departure from Manchester City

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Jack Grealish is not included in the FIFA Club World Cup squad — a decision made after open discussions between the player and club.

The England midfielder has been granted permission to discuss with other clubs regarding a summer transfer. While Guardiola hasn’t ruled out Grealish’s return to City, he suggested the 29-year-old should seek a new challenge.

“Jack is an exceptional player. The only reason he didn’t play last season is because of my decisions. The club was honest, he was honest,” stated Guardiola.

The Spanish coach also announced four new players joining the team in the United States:

  • Rayan Cherki
  • Rayan Aït-Nouri
  • Tijjani Reijnders
  • Marcus Bettinelli

Additionally, City has brought in Pep Lijnders — Jurgen Klopp’s former assistant at Liverpool — as part of the new coaching staff. Guardiola revealed he had sought Klopp’s permission before approaching Lijnders to join his team.
