Malaysian men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin Rumsani suffered a crushing defeat in the final of the 2025 Japan Open. They were beaten by South Korean duo Kim Won-ho/Seo Seung-jae with a score of 16-21, 17-21 in just 38 minutes at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.

The loss marked a double blow for the Malaysian contingent — no titles were secured at the BWF World Tour Super 750 tournament, after women’s doubles Pearly Tan/Thinaah Muralitharan also fell to China’s Liu Sheng Shu/Tan Ning.

“They were really fast and too strong even though we tried to match their pace,” said Goh Sze Fei. “We don’t have anything to prove. We just want to play our best and enjoy the game.”

The loss will have a significant impact on the world rankings. Kim/Seo, previously ranked third, are set to rise to world number one, displacing Goh/Izzuddin, who held the top spot for just eight weeks since the end of May.
