Goh/Izzuddin defend Japan Open title with dramatic victory

According to Bolasport.com, world number one men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzuddin Rumsani — who will lose their top position next week — advanced to Japan Open semifinals after defeating Indonesian representatives.

The Malaysian pair showed high determination against Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri — securing victory with scores of 21-13, 17-21, 22-20 at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium.

“We felt the pressure. They played well at the net, so we decided to frequently lift the shuttlecock to the baseline,” stated Izzuddin after the match.

“Fajar/Fikri are very good players and we had to prepare well to face them,” he added.

This victory marks a special achievement for Malaysian contingent — with four of their representatives advancing to tournament semifinals.
