Giovanni van Bronckhorst joins Liverpool coaching staff

Giovanni van Bronckhorst officially joins Liverpool’s coaching staff under Arne Slot’s command — marking the entry of Indonesian heritage into the elite English club.

The 50-year-old has strong Indonesian cultural roots — his father Victor van Bronckhorst is of Indonesian-Dutch descent, while his mother Fransien Sapulette hails from Maluku.

The former left-back who has recorded 106 appearances for the Netherlands national team will serve as assistant coach alongside Sipke Hulshoff.

“Liverpool can confirm several arrivals and departures to Arne Slot’s staff ahead of the 2025-2026 season. Former Netherlands player and captain Giovanni van Bronckhorst joins as assistant manager, pending visa completion,” reads the club’s official statement.
