Germany Suffers Heavy Defeat Against Sweden at Women’s Euro 2025

According to UEFA.com, Carlotta Wamser experienced contrasting moments as Germany suffered a heavy 4-1 defeat to Sweden in their Women’s Euro 2025 Group C match in Zurich.

Germany initially took the lead through Wamser’s assist to Jule Brand in the 12th minute — but the situation changed dramatically after Stina Blackstenius and Smilla Holmberg turned the tide in Sweden’s favor.

Disaster struck in the 31st minute when Wamser received a straight red card for handball on the goal line. Fridolina Rolfö successfully converted the penalty before Lina Hurtig added to Germany’s misery with the fourth goal.

  • Sweden will remain in Zurich to face Group D runners-up
  • Germany must travel to Basel to face Group D winners
  • Only Germany’s fifth defeat in 49 Euro matches
  • Their largest margin of defeat in Euro history

In other action, Poland made history with their first Euro victory by defeating Denmark 3-2. Natalia Padilla-Bidas scored Poland’s first goal in the tournament, followed by goals from Ewa Pajor and Martyna Wiankowska.
