Gerald Vanenburg to choose between Ferarri or Dony as U-23 national team captain

Gerald Vanenburg — the new Indonesia U-23 national team coach — now faces an important task ahead of ASEAN Cup U-23 2025.

The training camp that began under the Dutch coach’s guidance has already yielded initial decisions — the removal of two players from the squad, goalkeeper Husna Al Malik from Persik and Putra Sheva Sanggasi from Persib.

After the player reduction, the Young Garuda squad now consisting of 28 players still has a crucial agenda — selecting the team captain who will lead on the field.

Two main candidates under Vanenburg’s consideration are:

• Muhammad Ferarri — former U-20 national team captain
• Dony Tri Pamungkas — also previously wore the captain’s armband at U-20 level

The final decision about who will wear the captain’s armband is expected to be announced soon, considering the tournament will begin in three weeks.
