Gerald Vanenburg discusses Indonesia-Malaysia rivalry ahead of heated match

Indonesia U-23 national team coach, Gerald Vanenburg, shares his perspective on the upcoming match against Malaysia — a fixture filled with intense rivalry atmosphere.

The 61-year-old tactician sees parallels between Indonesia-Malaysia rivalry and European derbies — similar to what he experienced while representing the Netherlands national team.

“Yes, but I think you know that both countries are neighbors. There’s always a derby and I also played against Germany and Belgium. So I know this is also an important match,” said Vanenburg.

“But most importantly, we respect Malaysia,” added the Dutch coach, while affirming his team’s aim for victory in this fixture.
