Gerald Vanenburg confirms commitment to U-23 national team’s main goalkeeper

Gerald Vanenburg — Indonesia’s U-23 national team coach — confirms his commitment to maintain one main goalkeeper throughout the ASEAN Cup U-23 2025 tournament.

Muhammad Ardiansyah, PSM Makassar’s third goalkeeper aged 22 — has proven his capabilities by recording two clean sheets in his first two appearances with Indonesia’s U-23 national team.

During a press conference at Jakarta’s Madya Senayan Stadium, Vanenburg expressed his trust in the team’s goalkeeper coach’s decision.

“Yes because you always only have one goalkeeper throughout the tournament,” stated Vanenburg. “I think Sjoerd is the goalkeeper coach and if he decides who, then he will be our team’s goalkeeper and I trust that.”

This decision indicates that Ardiansyah will continue to guard Indonesia U-23’s goal in tomorrow’s match against Malaysia.
