Gerald Vanenburg calls up six players from Shin Tae-yong era for U-23 national team

Gerald Vanenburg — the new Indonesia U-23 national team coach — retains six players from Shin Tae-yong‘s era who successfully brought the team to U-23 Asian Cup 2024 semifinals.

Leadership change occurred last January — when Shin was replaced by the Dutch coach following the achievement of bringing Indonesia one step away from the 2024 Olympics.

Ahead of next month’s ASEAN Cup U-23 2025, Vanenburg has called up 30 players for the first training camp starting June 20 — including six senior players who will serve as role models for their new teammates.

The coach with experience leading Ajax Amsterdam’s youth team hopes the combination of old and new players will form a solid new generation of U-23 national team.
