George Russell Reveals Mercedes’ ‘Space Jacket’ Secret in F1

George Russell, Mercedes Formula 1 driver, reveals the advantages of an innovative cooling jacket developed by adidas for the Mercedes team. The metallic-looking device dubbed the ‘space jacket’ — combines coolant with integrated fans to prevent driver overheating.

“They are making fun of us because they’re jealous, it’s as simple as that,” Russell said jokingly ahead of the British GP. “F1 is a unique sport. Right before racing we’re standing on the grid, surrounded by cameras and interviews, and it’s so hot sometimes in your race suit — you’re melting.”

The British driver also shared interesting insights about interactions in the post-race cooldown room — drivers exchange information, sometimes even dropping false information to test their rivals’ reactions.

Russell emphasized Formula 1’s uniqueness — where 20 top world athletes compete together throughout the season. While the busy schedule allows them to build closer relationships, he acknowledged this “doesn’t apply to everyone.”
