George Russell Receives Stewards Warning in Austrian GP Qualifying

George Russell received a warning from Formula 1 stewards following a pit lane incident during Austrian GP qualifying. The Mercedes driver was deemed to have entered the fast lane without adequate spacing from other cars.

The incident occurred at the start of Q3 when Russell attempted to enter the fast lane as other cars approached — his angled position limited his visibility. The situation worsened when he accidentally engaged the clutch while communicating with the team.

“I saw a few drivers pulling out, but there’s a massive blind spot. You can’t get out of a window and you can only move your head so much,” explained Russell.

Russell will start the race from fifth position, while his teammate Andrea Kimi Antonelli starts from ninth. These results come about two weeks after Russell’s victory at the Canadian GP, where he finished first and Antonelli third — despite Red Bull’s protests regarding safety car procedures.

“That was definitely the maximum we could have got. The gap to everyone except Lando is quite understandable, but Lando did a really amazing job today,” added Russell.
