George Russell Claims Canadian GP Pole with Stunning Performance

George Russell achieved a remarkable feat by securing pole position for the Canadian GP — beating Max Verstappen by 0.16 seconds in qualifying.

The Mercedes driver clocked a time of 1 minute 10.899 seconds using medium tires in his final Q3 run — improving his performance by 0.6 seconds compared to his initial lap.

“That last lap was probably one of the most exhilarating laps of my life. I saw on my steering wheel that every corner I was one-tenth quicker, and at the last corner I was six-tenths up,” Russell expressed.

When asked about starting alongside Verstappen following their incident in Barcelona two weeks ago, Russell indicated his readiness to be aggressive into the first corner.

Max Verstappen expressed satisfaction with his front-row start — after his team resolved the braking issues he experienced in previous practice sessions.

“The car was in a good window. We need to be efficient on the straights, which I think we are in general. Overall, I’m very happy with qualifying,” said Verstappen.
