Gennaro Gattuso officially becomes new Italy national team coach

The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has announced the appointment of Gennaro Gattuso as the new head coach of the Italy national team — replacing the position left by Luciano Spalletti.

The official announcement was made through FIGC’s official website on Sunday (15/6).

“The Italian Football Federation proudly announces that Gennaro Gattuso will be the new First Team Head Coach,” stated the FIGC’s official release.

FIGC President, Gabriele Gravina, welcomed the arrival of this strong-charactered coach positively.

“Gattuso is a symbol of Italian football, the jersey is like his second skin. His motivation, professionalism, and experience will be the foundation in facing the next challenges with the National Team,” said Gravina.

The former AC Milan midfielder has been given the main task — leading Gli Azzurri to qualify for the 2026 World Cup after missing the last two editions in 2018 and 2022.
