Gary Rowett Awaits Transfer Budget Clarity from Oxford United Owners Bakrie-Thohir

Oxford United manager, Gary Rowett, is awaiting clarity on the transfer budget from the club’s Indonesian owners, Anindya Bakrie and Erick Thohir, as he begins preparations for the upcoming 2025/26 Championship season.

Rowett, who replaced Des Buckingham midway through a difficult season, aims to build a competitive squad to avoid another relegation battle.

Indonesian Owners Bring Influence and Talent

The Bakrie-Thohir ownership duo has now entered their third year in charge of Oxford United. Their tenure has brought a positive Indonesian presence to the English club, with the signings of Marselino Ferdinan and Ole Romeny, both of whom contributed during the second half of the season.

Their involvement has increased Oxford’s appeal not only in the UK but also in Southeast Asia, especially among Indonesian football fans.

Rowett Needs Reinforcements After Tough Season

Oxford United endured a challenging 2024/25 campaign, prompting a managerial switch to Gary Rowett in a bid to avoid the drop. His arrival helped steady the ship — Oxford finished 17th in the Championship with 53 points.

However, Rowett has made it clear that without adequate financial backing, Oxford risks being dragged back into the relegation zone next season.

“We need clarity on the budget to start planning for signings,” Rowett reportedly said.
“There’s potential here, but it needs investment.”
