Gary Rowett reveals unique experience using armored vehicles in Bandung

Gary Rowett, Oxford United coach, reveals his unique experience during the 2025 President’s Cup — the English team reached the final before losing to Port FC.

One of the most memorable moments for The U’s coach was the use of armored vehicles — necessary to navigate through Bandung’s heavy traffic.

“I’ve never seen armored vehicles taking us to training grounds, which was a bit scary when you do it for the first time. I think basically this was the only way to get through traffic jams,” said Rowett.

This experience became a valuable lesson for Oxford United — the Super League competing team got a chance to undergo trials different from usual.
