Gary Rowett reveals negative impact of Oxford United’s Indonesia tour

Coach Gary Rowett reveals that Oxford United is facing a player injury crisis — a consequence of their participation in the 2025 President’s Cup in Indonesia.

The team owned by Indonesian businessmen Anindya Bakrie and Erick Thohir underwent a packed schedule with three matches on fields that differ from conditions in England.

  • Defeated Indonesia All Star 6-3
  • Won 4-0 against Arema FC
  • Suffered a 1-2 loss to Port FC

While the club’s marketing division benefited from this tour — the team’s condition is concerning with numerous players injured two weeks after returning to England. Oxford United, which has two Indonesian players Marselino Ferdinan and Ole Romeny, is not accustomed to conducting pre-season tours to countries as distant as Indonesia.
