Gallardo Reveals Attempt to Recruit Cristiano Ronaldo to River Plate

Marcelo Gallardo, former Argentina national team player, revealed his attempt to bring Cristiano Ronaldo to River Plate, as reported by Tyc Sports.

Gallardo — who represented Argentina in the 1998 and 2002 World Cups — established communication with Ronaldo through mutual friends.

“We maintained contact over the past few months. The approach happened in mid-March, through informal contact via our mutual friends,” revealed Gallardo.

“I said, ‘Hey, there’s the Club World Cup and a player like you, who marked an era… Are you planning to play there’?”

Although Ronaldo appreciated the offer, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner decided to continue his career in Saudi Arabia.

“He told us that he needs to prepare for next season,” explained Gallardo.
