Galatasaray Targets New Goalkeeper After Muslera Retirement: Four Realistic Options Under €20 Million

Galatasaray Borong Bintang, Kini Fokus Cari Kiper Anyar

Galatasaray is once again in the spotlight this summer transfer window. After successfully securing Victor Osimhen on a permanent deal—which broke the club’s transfer record—the focus has now shifted to the goalkeeper position. The Istanbul giants are reportedly on the hunt for a top-quality goalkeeper to replace Fernando Muslera, the club legend who retired after 15 glorious years at Gala.

Muslera certainly left an unforgettable mark with 133 caps for Uruguay and a stellar career at Galatasaray, but his prime years are behind him. Now, the management wants to bring in a new goalkeeper who can become a star at the back while making a significant impact for the fans. Currently, the three senior goalkeepers at the club have a combined market value of only €1.1 million—far below the standard of a top club.

Several big names have been linked with Galatasaray, including Gianluigi Donnarumma. However, the chances of signing Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain are slim, considering he just won the Champions League and still has one year remaining on his PSG contract. Therefore, Galatasaray’s management is now focusing on more realistic and potentially viable targets.

Four Galatasaray Goalkeeper Targets Under €20 Million

First is Ederson, Manchester City’s goalkeeper, widely regarded as one of the best in the world. Rumors suggest Galatasaray is optimistic about convincing the Brazilian with their project. Ederson is entering the final year of his City contract, and Pep Guardiola faces a choice between keeping him or letting him go after the arrival of James Trafford. If successful, this would be a blockbuster signing for Gala.

Emiliano Martinez is also on their radar. The Argentine goalkeeper left Aston Villa with tears in his eyes during his final appearance at Villa Park. His future at Villa remains uncertain, and several clubs—including Galatasaray—are reportedly interested. The advantage for the Turkish club is tax benefits that allow them to offer high wages, a decisive factor that helped lure Leroy Sané from Bayern Munich to Galatasaray previously.

Marc-André ter Stegen is the third option, a highly experienced goalkeeper with a reputation as one of the world’s most skillful shot-stoppers. However, negotiations for the 33-year-old are complicated due to Barcelona’s unstable financial situation. Ter Stegen is also facing health issues, including a back surgery that could sideline him for up to four months, though Barca is eager to reduce their wage bill.

Galatasaray’s primary target, however, appears to be Yann Sommer. The 36-year-old goalkeeper impressed at Inter Milan, playing a key role in their run to last season’s Champions League final. Sommer is also in the final year of his contract, and Inter is reportedly willing to sell him for a price above his €4 million market value. Among the four options, Sommer is the most realistic financially while still maintaining a high level of performance.

Galatasaray’s move to bring in a new goalkeeper is not just about replacing Muslera—it’s a statement: the club wants to remain a top side in Turkey and compete at the European level. With Osimhen back and the aforementioned goalkeeper targets, this summer could be a major moment for a club with a rich history and a passionate fanbase.

If all goes according to plan, Galatasaray will have a lethal attacking line with Osimhen, a solid defense with a new goalkeeper, and will continue to hold their status as one of Turkey’s hard-to-beat giants. The summer transfer window is set to heat up, with the public’s eyes on Istanbul, awaiting Galatasaray’s next strategic moves.
