Gabriel Bortoleto, Sauber’s rookie driver, acknowledges facing significant challenges in transitioning from Formula 2 success to backmarker position in Formula 1, as reported by Motorsport.com.

After claiming consecutive titles in F2 and F3, the Brazilian driver joined the Audi-owned Sauber team. The Swiss outfit continues to struggle showing progress — though Nico Hulkenberg managed to secure seventh place in a weather-affected Australian GP.

“It’s very tough if I’m honest. I come from two very good years in my life, where I won F3 and F2,” Bortoleto reveals.

The young driver admits that the mental challenge has been more difficult than anticipated — having to adapt from a championship mindset to fighting for points.

Despite facing a tough start, Bortoleto maintains optimism about Audi’s F1 project future. He emphasizes the importance of staying focused on personal and team development to be ready when winning opportunities arise in the future.
