FwydChickn Explains a Huge Gap Between MPL ID/PH and Other Regions

BloodThirstyKing’s EXP Laner, Ian “FwydChickn” Hohl, has shared his insights on why players from the MPL ID and PH regions consistently outperform opponents in global competitions.

During a livestream, the American player believed that while North American and other non-Asian players are mechanically skilled and on par with MPL ID/PH professionals, they lag behind in macro-level strategic understanding.

“NA players are really good mechanically but they have no idea how to play macro and it’s the same case when you watch regions where ML is kind of unpopular or like don’t have a competitive protein.

I watched the India tournament as well, where their mechanics and micro is good but their macro is just dumb because they’ve never been exposed or played verse better quality of macro and you don’t really notice those things until you experience it yourself, watching it is completely different than actually playing.”

FwydChickn stressed that this strategic maturity isn’t developed overnight. The MPL ID and PH regions have honed their skills through years of high-level competition, giving them a deep grasp of macro strategy. He hopes for initiatives to elevate the competitive quality in his own region to better rival global teams.

However, it seems the competitive MLBB scene in North America is currently at a standstill and likely won’t see major improvement unless significant sponsorship comes knocking. For instance, BTK’s recent NACT 2025 victory only rewarded them with in-game MLBB Diamonds and a slot for the Esports World Cup 2025 — highlighting the region’s lack of investment in meaningful competitive growth.
