Frank van Kempen criticizes U-23 player regulations in Super League

Indonesia’s U-20 national team coach, Frank van Kempen has expressed criticism regarding U-23 player regulations in Super League 2025/2026 — the competition previously known as Liga 1.

I.League has established new policies allowing clubs to register up to 11 foreign players — with eight of them permitted to play on the field simultaneously.

Current regulations require each Super League club to:

  • Register five U-23 players
  • Start at least one U-23 player
  • Play U-23 player for minimum 45 minutes

This policy continues from the previous season, but with a significant difference in foreign player quota — which was previously limited to six players per match.
