Stefano Domenicali, Formula 1 CEO, has indicated that Italy may only host one Grand Prix race per year — as interest from various countries to organize Formula 1 events continues to grow.

In an interview with RAI radio, Domenicali explained the difficulty of maintaining two races in Italy.

“Italy has always been and will be an important part of Formula 1, but it will be increasingly difficult to have two races in the same country because interest in F1 is growing — this is a situation we will have to deal with in the coming months.”

Monza Circuit has a contract until 2031, while Imola’s contract expires this year. As an Imola native, Domenicali acknowledges this decision isn’t easy.

“From a human point of view it will not be easy, but I have to exercise an international role that puts me in front of many requests from emerging countries that can allow F1 to grow.”

The 2025 season has reached 24 races — the highest number in history. Madrid is scheduled to join next year, while Thailand and Africa have also shown strong interest in hosting Grand Prix events.
