Former Fruit Vendor Saves Argentina from Defeat Against Colombia

Thiago Almada, once a traveling fruit vendor, rose to the occasion as he salvaged a 1-1 draw for the Argentina national team against Colombia in the 2026 World Cup CONMEBOL Qualifiers, held at Estadio Monumental.

Lionel Scaloni’s men were trailing in the second half before Almada netted the crucial equalizer, preventing a home defeat in front of a passionate Buenos Aires crowd.

Argentina Dominates But Fails to Convert Chances

From kickoff, Argentina asserted control. In just the 4th minute, Enzo Fernandez found space inside the penalty area, but his effort flew just wide of the post.

Julian Alvarez also tested the Colombian defense with a long-range strike, though it was comfortably saved by the visiting goalkeeper.

Despite dominating possession and pushing forward relentlessly, Argentina couldn’t find the finishing touch until Almada stepped up to change the narrative.

Scaloni’s Squad Stays On Track Despite Stalemate

While a win would have strengthened Argentina’s position further, the point still keeps them on course for 2026 World Cup qualification. For Colombia, the result is a morale booster as they continue their campaign with resilience.
