Guardiola Confirms Foden In Man City Squad For Club World Cup Despite Injury

Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Phil Foden will be included in Manchester City’s squad for the upcoming Club World Cup, even though the midfielder is currently nursing an ankle injury.

The 24-year-old had earlier requested to be omitted from England’s national team for their upcoming matches against Andorra and Senegal in order to rest. Foden, who was named Premier League Player of the Season last year, has seen a dip in form during the current campaign.

“In principle, he will come to America,” said Guardiola. “We want to help him — that’s the most important thing. He needs rest, and it’s going to happen after Sunday. I just want him to feel good. I don’t care about his performance on the pitch.”

City Faces Player Availability Issues Ahead of Departure

There is still uncertainty over the participation of James McAtee and Rico Lewis, who are also in demand for England U-21s during the European Championship, which kicks off on June 12—the same day City travels to Florida.

Meanwhile, Guardiola confirmed that Kyle Walker, currently on loan at AC Milan, will not be joining the team for the tournament despite having one year left on his contract with Manchester City.
