Florian Neuhaus suspended from Gladbach first team after mocking sports director

Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Florian Neuhaus has received severe sanctions from his club — the player was fined and banned from training with the first team after being seen mocking the club’s sports director on social media.

In the viral video, Neuhaus was seen talking with several people wearing Gladbach uniforms about sports director Roland Virkus — he called Virkus “the worst manager in the world” and discussed his role in determining his annual salary of 4 million euros.

Gladbach announced a heavy fine of around 100,000 euros and a four-week suspension from first-team training for the 28-year-old player.

“The behavior and statements of Florian Neuhaus are damaging to the club and unacceptable. He has tarnished the club’s name with his words and greatly disappointed the people involved, which is not in line with the club’s values,” said Gladbach CEO Stefan Stegemann.

Despite making over 200 appearances for Gladbach since joining in 2017, Neuhaus was mostly used as a substitute last season — appearing only 17 times in the league as his team finished 10th.
