Fiorentina Strongly Protests Venezia’s Goal Claimed as Handball

In a heated Serie A matchweek 36 encounter at Stadio Luigi Penzo, Venezia triumphed 2-1 over Fiorentina, led by captain Jay Idzes.

The drama unfolded in the 60th minute when Fali Candé opened the scoring for Venezia — a goal that immediately sparked protests from the Fiorentina bench. Just eight minutes later, Gaetano Oristanio doubled the lead with a precise header.

Rolando Mondragón managed to pull one back for Fiorentina, but the visitors could not turn the game around.

Palladino Questions Referee Over Handball Incident

Fiorentina coach Raffaele Palladino voiced strong objections regarding Candé’s opener, claiming it was preceded by a handball.

“We are certain there was a handball before the ball went in. This should not have stood,” said Palladino post-match.

Despite the protests, VAR review found the footage inconclusive, and the on-field referee’s decision was upheld — leaving Fiorentina frustrated and trailing in the league standings.
