FIFA President Gianni Infantino revealed plans to hold a playoff match between Los Angeles FC and Club America for a spot in the Club World Cup — after FIFA removed Club Leon from the tournament last month.

Club Leon has filed an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) after being excluded from the upcoming June to July tournament due to multi-club ownership rules.

“In a couple of weeks we will have the final and definitive decision, we will respect any decision,” Infantino told reporters at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

If CAS upholds FIFA’s Appeals Committee decision, a playoff match will be held between LAFC — the team that lost in the CONCACAF Champions League final — against Club America as the next-ranked team.

The expanded 32-team competition will offer a total prize pool of 1 billion dollars.
