FIA Prepares New WRC 2027 Technical Regulations Focusing on Bodywork

The FIA has announced that it is finalizing new technical regulations for the World Rally Championship (WRC) 2027, which will soon be submitted to the World Motor Sport Council next month.

The WRC Commission has been working on several key updates to the WRC 2027 regulations. The main focus of these changes revolves around bodywork specifications, alongside a complete reorganization of engine control systems and electronic systems. These new guidelines build upon the regulatory framework revealed five months ago, which includes a cost cap of €345,000 per car.

Key Points in the New Regulations:
  • Use of spaceframe chassis with Rally2 engines

  • Increased chassis construction flexibility for tuners and OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers)

  • Ability to accommodate various body types

  • Adoption of sustainable materials

  • Revised homologation criteria

“We have had a strong start to the 2025 WRC season, and we’ve made equally strong progress in our working groups addressing various areas of regulations and safety,” said Pernilla Solberg, WRC Commission President.

In addition, the FIA is also reviewing the tender process for sustainable fuel suppliers for the 2026-2028 period. This comes after TotalEnergies took over the contract from P1 Performance Fuels last month.
