FFF Investigates Online Hate Comments After Women’s Euro Exit

The French Football Federation (FFF) has taken firm action regarding hate comments that emerged on social media — after their women’s national team was eliminated from the Euro through a penalty shootout against Germany in the quarter-finals.

FFF affirmed its commitment to combat unsportsmanlike behavior by contacting the National Center Against Online Hatred to open an investigation into these cyber perpetrators.

French national team goalkeeper Pauline Peyraud-Magnin voiced her concern on Instagram regarding the harassment received by her teammates:

“There’s one thing harder to accept than defeat: hatred. We can be frustrated, sad, even angry. But hatred should never have a place in this sport.”

A similar case also befell England defender Jess Carter who had to withdraw from social media due to online racial abuse she received.
