FC Twente moves quickly to find Mees Hilgers replacement

According to Tubantia reports, FC Twente is taking an unusual approach in searching for a new center-back — without waiting for confirmation about Mees Hilgers‘ future.

“It is common for clubs to sell before getting new players for the same position. At FC Twente, things are different now. The club doesn’t want to wait until Mees Hilgers finds another destination while recruiting two center-backs. So act instead of react,” writes the Dutch media.

Hilgers, now 24 years old — has spent nearly half his life at FC Twente since joining in 2011. This academy product moved up to the senior team about five years ago and is now reportedly looking for new challenges at another club.
