FAM launches Elite Games program for U-23 national team selection

The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) is taking a different approach in preparing their U-23 national team — they have launched the Elite Games program for player selection ahead of the ASEAN Cup U-23 2025 and AFC U-23 Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers.

Tan Cheng Hoe, Technical Director of Malaysian National Team, announced this brief selection program during a press conference in Jakarta. Unlike Indonesia which has announced 30 players for training camp — FAM opts for an intensive three-day selection method.

“This Elite Games project is the result of my discussions with coach Peter Cklamovski and coach Nafuzi Zain,” said Tan Cheng Hoe as reported by Kosmo.

Players will undergo a series of trial matches against each other — the coaching staff will evaluate their performances to determine who deserves to join the Malaysian U-23 national team.
