Fajar/Fikri fail to convert match point in Japan Open quarterfinals

According to Bolasport.com, Indonesian men’s doubles pair Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Shohibul Fikri suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the Japan Open 2025 quarterfinals — after failing to convert their match point opportunity.

Facing world number one Malaysian pair Goh Sze Fei/Nur Izzudin Rumsani at Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium, Fajar/Fikri had to acknowledge their opponents’ superiority in a thrilling three-game match.

In the opening game, the Indonesian representatives struggled against their opponents’ pressure — resulting in a 13-21 loss. Entering the second game, despite trailing by three points at the interval, Fajar/Fikri managed to turn things around and level the match.

The battle in the deciding game was intense, with Goh/Nur leading 14-11 after the interval. Fajar/Fikri managed to equalize at 15-15 and even secured a match point — but unfortunately, they couldn’t capitalize on this golden opportunity.
