F1 Introduces Second Checkered Flag for Fans

The 2025 Formula 1 season introduces a fresh spectacle at the finish line — two checkered flags waved at the end of each race. According to an FIA spokesperson, the first flag with the FIA logo remains the official race-finishing signal.

Second Flag Becomes Symbolic Gesture

The second checkered flag, waved from the pit wall, serves as a fan-focused and marketing-driven element. This initiative kicked off at the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona, where professional footballer Robert Lewandowski, had the honor of waving the second flag.

“The concept is similar in spirit to ceremonial kick-offs in football, where guests take part in a symbolic start to the game,” said the FIA spokesperson.

Fans Can Own Part of the Flag

Adding a commercial twist, F1 fans can now purchase individual squares on this secondary flag — allowing their names to be immortalized at major races.

Here are the prices for select races:

  • Hungarian Grand Prix: €241.95

  • Las Vegas Grand Prix: €665.95

Buyers will receive an exclusive framed package including:

  • A photo of the flag waving at the finish line

  • The panel with their name cut directly from the original flag

  • An official certificate of authenticity

This fan engagement initiative is expected to create new excitement and strengthen emotional connections between F1 fans and the sport.
