F1 2026 transfer market heats up: Verstappen and Russell in spotlight

The Formula 1 driver market for the 2026 season is intensifying with primary focus on the futures of Max Verstappen and George Russell.

Despite being contracted to Red Bull until 2028, Verstappen reportedly has performance clauses that could enable a team switch. This situation has caught the attention of Toto Wolff — Mercedes team principal who has long admired the Dutch world champion’s abilities.

Russell — whose Mercedes contract expires this year — has yet to sign an extension. The British driver has several intriguing options, including potential moves to Red Bull or Aston Martin, which will debut its first Adrian Newey-designed car in 2026.

The scenario becomes more interesting with Cadillac’s entry as F1’s 11th team in 2026. Veterans like Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas are linked to the new team, while younger drivers such as Mick Schumacher, Zhou Guanyu, and American racer Jak Crawford are also on the radar.
