Esme Morgan Optimistic About Leah Williamson’s Availability for Italy Semi-final

According to UEFA.com, England defender Esme Morgan expressed optimism about team captain Leah Williamson‘s condition, who is expected to be ready for the Euro 2025 semi-final against Italy in Geneva.

Williamson — who previously led England to Euro 2022 glory — suffered an ankle injury during extra time against Sweden. She attempted to continue playing but was eventually replaced by Niamh Charles.

“We’re very optimistic that Leah will be available. She seemed in very high spirits this morning and I want what’s best for the team — that’s absolutely having our captain on the pitch,” said Morgan.

Morgan herself came on as a substitute against Sweden and is ready to step in if needed — despite this being her first major tournament experience.

“Every training session you’re pushing to be a starting player. I’m always content knowing that I’ve given absolutely everything to be in the best position to make an impact and to do my role to the best of my ability,” she added.
