Erick Thohir Reminds Indonesia U-23 to Stay Alert after Beating Brunei

Erick Thohir, PSSI Chairman, has responded after Indonesia U-23 national team secured a decisive 8-0 victory over Brunei Darussalam in the opening match of ASEAN Cup U-23 2025 at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium, Jakarta.

The man who also serves as Minister of State-Owned Enterprises emphasized that this big victory should not make Gerald Vanenburg’s squad quickly feel satisfied.

“I think this big victory shouldn’t be considered as a good benchmark, because we know that the Philippines team just defeated Malaysia 2-0,” stated Thohir.

“This means we must really ensure our game strategy and avoid player injuries to perform well against the Philippines. So I think the Philippines cannot be underestimated,” he added.

Indonesia U-23 national team will face Philippines in their next match at the same venue — a team that just surprised Malaysia with a 2-0 victory.
