Erick Thohir sends letter to I.League regarding Super League foreign player restrictions

PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir has sent an official letter to I.League — the competition operator formerly known as PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB) — regarding foreign player regulations in Super League 2025/2026.

I.League’s policy allowing clubs to register 11 foreign players with eight players allowed to play simultaneously — has drawn criticism from various national football stakeholders.

Erick Thohir, who also serves as Minister of State-Owned Enterprises, proposes reducing the number of foreign players to seven — as an effort to balance competition quality with local talent development.
