Erick Thohir Criticizes PSM Captain Yuran Fernandes After Liga 1 Outburst

PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir voiced strong disapproval toward PSM Makassar captain Yuran Fernandes, who made controversial remarks criticizing the Indonesian football league.

Post-Match Comments Spark Outrage

The issue arose following PSM Makassar’s 1-3 defeat to PSS Sleman on matchday 31 of Liga 1, held at Maguwoharjo Stadium, Sleman. The match was overshadowed by refereeing controversy.

Yuran Fernandes, a player from Cape Verde, openly condemned the referee’s performance during the post-match press conference. He questioned a disallowed goal and claimed the match officials treated PSM unfairly.

Football in Indonesia is just a joke,” Fernandes later wrote on social media, escalating the situation further.

Erick Thohir Responds Firmly

In a firm response, Erick Thohir emphasized the importance of respecting Indonesian football, especially for foreign players who are part of the domestic league.

“It is unacceptable for a foreign player earning a living in Indonesia to make demeaning statements about our national football,” stated Thohir.
