Eric Cantona, Manchester United legend from the 1990s, has launched sharp criticism against the club’s new minority owner — Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS who are accused of removing the “soul” from this legendary club.

The former French striker stated that the club is now being run more like a mere business — decisions being made show no respect for the club’s history and traditions.

“I support United because I really love the club, but if I had to choose a club now, I wouldn’t choose United,” said Cantona at an event at FC United — a club formed in protest against the Glazer family ownership.

One controversial decision is the plan to leave Old Trafford for a new 100,000-capacity stadium. Additionally, the termination of Sir Alex Ferguson’s ambassador contract, 5% season ticket price increase, and hundreds of staff redundancies have drawn criticism.

“The soul of the team and the club is not in the players — all the people around is like a big family. I remember a dressing room with players and Sir Alex Ferguson. All these people helped us to feel at home and be in a family.”

Cantona revealed he had offered help to Ratcliffe’s team to rebuild something at the club, but his offer was not warmly received. As a form of protest, he decided to join FC United alongside his four children and two brothers.
